Energized happy women
This past year I tried some experimentation to feel better in my body. I have always been one to try to find new ways to feel better mentally, but I had never really been consistent with taking better care of my body. A lifelong issue with ADD will do that to ya. Consistency, ya know?
So as I was feeling heavy and uncomfortable in my body earlier in the year, while continuing to hear stories of people getting ill from preventable diseases like diabetes, heart disease or cholesterol. I started to worry about my own physical health and I knew it was time to make a change.
I set out to lose some weight I had gained over COVID and found new ways to feel lighter, less sluggish and stronger in my body.
Here are some tips and tricks that you can try today so that you can stop feeling so sluggish and tired!
Drink at least 64 oz of water a day! You cannot believe how easy it might be to forget to drink water. But water is the stuff of life and water can help you feel better and lighter in your body. Water is replenishing, it’s got minerals (if it hasn’t been too stripped away) and it can also help you feel fuller and lighter at the same time. Drinking water through out your day helps you save on calories ( I have people that drink nothing but soda all day and find it hard to lose weight) and helps you save on sugar content ( a 12 oz can of soda has about 10 teaspoons of sugar, sugary drinks spike your blood sugar level, and makes you feel tired and sluggish). If you are trying to lose weight or cut back on over eating, drinking at least 16 oz of water before meal time will also help you feel fuller and prevent you from over eating much more easily. Bottom line: Increasing your water intake makes you feel good, it’s good for you and will help you with your physical goals.
2. Start your meals with veggies, greens or fiber. According to the Glucose Goddess, starting your meals with veggies ( better if they are fibrous green veggies) can help you reduce the impact of any foods that have a high level of glucose (such as heavy carbs like breads, pastas, sugary foods). This book, The Glucose Revolution, explains it in fuller detail, but the main idea is that whenever you eat, you want to eat your veggies first, your protein next and your carbs last. Eating this way helps reduce the glucose levels in your blood and helps you feel better in your body. According to this method, you can even eat fruits and desserts, but it’s the order or what you eat them with that makes the difference. Eating this way, has helped me feel so much better! And I am not falling asleep at work after everything that I eat. I used to feel so tired whenever I ate, and I used to feel so heavy, but now eating this way has helped tremendously and I do my best to keep eating this way because it has made a difference. Why don’t you try this too! And if you want some further information on this book, I would highly suggest following the Glucose Goddess on Instagram. She has even more detailed information on this way of eating than I do! You are sure to pick up some good ideas and you will start to feel less tired and sluggish.
3. Try some volume eating. I worked with a health coach this spring and my coach recommended volume eating to help me feel fuller in my meals. I wanted to revamp my diet, but I didn’t want to feel deprived and sad in the process. My coach showed me this approach and I have not felt crazy deprived or felt like things were too strict since. Since childhood, I grew up with not very healthy habits. Unfortunately, I come from a background where finances were not plentiful and cheaper food tends to be carb heavy or more processed. I overate these foods and fruits and veggies were not a 3x a day thing. I grew up over eating and not eating more balanced. I had to overhaul some habits. My coach recommended volume eating and that I fill up my plate with more veggies, salads, or low sugar fruit like berries, jicama or cucumbers. I can add portioned sizes of protein and carbs, but she recommended eating greater amounts of food that have more fiber, more water and less sugar. This helped me feel more balanced, like I wasn’t under eating and helped me feel like I was doing something good for my body! This tip with tip number 2 greatly helped overhaul the way I was eating. And the rules were not complicated at all.
4. Have a little dance or movement. When you are feeling slow, tired and unenergized put on your funnest and happiest song on and have a little dance! Movement for the body, no matter how small, adds into you wellness bank. Sometimes it just feels plain good to dance or move in an expressive or fun way when you are feeling sluggish.
